Sustainable Village Tourism

Responsible Travel Code

Demada Oya is first and foremost a home to families, farmers, and wildlife. By observing thoughtful guidelines, you ensure tourism remains a blessing rather than a burden.

Ask Permission Before Photographing People

Village residents are gracious and hospitable, but their privacy is sacred. Always seek a polite nod or greeting before taking portraits, especially of children, temple monks, or private family verandas.

Zero Plastic in Fields and Streams

Single-use plastic bottles, polythene snack bags, and wet wipes contaminate agricultural soils and drainage canals. Please bring a reusable water bottle (refillable free at all homestays) and carry all rubbish back out.

Respect Working Farmland & Paddy Bunds

Paddy bunds are earthen irrigation walls that took weeks of manual labor to construct. Walk single file along the center ridge. Never step into flooded furrows or pluck fruits, spices, or leaves without the farmer's express consent.

Modest Dress for Sacred Sites & Village Lanes

When visiting village temples, shrines, or walking through family hamlets, shoulders and knees should be respectfully covered. Remove footwear and hats when entering temple enclosures.
